Executive Director- Mrs. Nicole Johnson 

Nicole Johnson is the founder and executive director of Great Start Academy. You could say business was in her blood from a very young age. With the seed of high academic achievement nurtured in her middle school years and entrepreneurism more firmly planted during her teenage years---then sealed with a good college education, Mrs. Johnson has arrived at a place of professionalism and stability with her business.

 

Nicole is a lifelong Philadelphia, PA native. She continually availed herself of every opportunity to fine tune skills she would need to run a business of her own. Nicole continually seeks out ways to better serve both the children and their parents by periodically offering new services such as before-care and after-care for school-age children and summer camp. As a wife and mother, she understands the value of a nurturing environment and the commitment to find such a place. Nicole Currently holds a Master’s Degree in early childhood education for West Chester University.

Full-Time Teachers

We are a diverse and professionally trained team of well-educated early childhood facilitators who provide quality childcare and early education. We firmly believe all children are unique, and treat them as such by custom-designing our lessons to match their individual needs. At G.S.A, we provide each child a safe, supportive, respectful, nurturing, stimulating, and fun environment. Our teachers use the environment to set up age appropriate hands-on experiences to stimulate growth and development through exploration. We value and support families by meeting their child's needs and by providing frequent communication about their child regarding their individual growth and development. We encourage our parents to get to know us, visit us, and partner with us to ultimately provide the best learning experience for their child.

Part-Time Teaching Staff

We employ part-time staff to assist our Teachers. These individuals are a valuable asset to our program. When we interview student staff, we look for persons who have had direct experience with children in childcare, preschool, missions work, or camp counseling. We seek enthusiastic staff members who truly enjoy working with young children.

All new staff members attend an orientation meeting. Student staff also attend regular workshops and monthly training meetings during the year. We continuously teach positive techniques for working with young children, developmentally appropriate practice techniques, and developmental information about children. All staff must submit background clearances to the State. Licensing prohibits us from employing any people who have convictions of child abuse, child neglect, or most forms of assault. All staff undergoes Tuberculosis skin tests and health physicals. Our staff is also required to complete training in First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, Safe Sleep, Signs and Symptoms of Illness, Child Development training, and more.
